Money Rules ... America! - New documentary traces how U.S. capitalism shaped wealth and power over 150 years

A new documentary explores how capitalism in the U.S. has evolved from the late 19th century to today. Capitalism, Made in the USA – Wealth as a Cult examines the influence of the ultra-rich on politics, society, and inequality. The film is now available on ARTE’s media library and will air in full on Tuesday, December 16, at 8:15 PM.

The documentary is divided into three parts, each covering a distinct era. The first, A Paradise for Millionaires (1870–1920), focuses on industrialists like John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan. These tycoons amassed fortunes by exploiting tax loopholes and shaping government policies. While profit often clashed with social justice, some, like Andrew Carnegie, also funded libraries and public institutions.

The film presents a sweeping history of wealth and power in the U.S. without offering easy solutions. Viewers can watch it now on ARTE’s media library or tune in on December 16 at 8:15 PM. The documentary’s release comes as debates over inequality and corporate influence continue to dominate public discussion.
