NECA Praises Tinubu's Retiree Focus, Urges Swift PenCom Governing Body Reconstitution
The Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association (NECA) has praised President Bola Tinubu's consistent focus on retiree welfare and pension matters. NECA's Director-General, Mr Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, highlighted this in a statement from Abuja. Meanwhile, NECA has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria's pension sector growth and development, pledging to collaborate with the government and stakeholders to strengthen pension administration.
Oyerinde warned about the absence of a fully functional Governing Body for the National Pension Commission (PenCom), which manages funds crucial to millions of Nigerian workers' retirements. He stressed that reconstituting this body promptly is vital for effective oversight, policy direction, and corporate governance within PenCom. Despite no specific date announced, NECA urges the government to prioritise this reconstitution.
NECA commended Tinubu's dedication to social protection and economic dignity in retirement. It also committed to advocating for policies ensuring pension asset safety, expanding pension coverage, and improving retiree welfare. As the umbrella body for organised business in Nigeria, NECA will continue to champion a sustainable pension system that benefits all.
NECA's call for the timely reconstitution of PenCom's Governing Body underscores the importance of robust governance in Nigeria's pension sector. With President Tinubu's demonstrated commitment to retiree welfare, NECA's advocacy aligns with the administration's priorities, promising a collaborative approach to strengthening the pension system.
