Mönchengladbach to Build 138 Homes on Former Factory Site

Mönchengladbach is set to transform a site between the municipal cemetery Rheydt, Bachstraße, and Botzkuhlenweg into a residential quarter. The city plans to create up to 138 homes, with a winning urban design serving as the basis for development.

The former textile factory's administrative building, listed in the city's heritage, will be integrated into the plans. Around 35 apartments will be created along Bachstraße, some in the renovated building. The remaining area will include 18 semi-detached house halves and 60 row houses, with some featuring a second residential unit upstairs. Additionally, 11 residential units are planned in a multi-family house at Botzkuhlenweg. The northern part of the area will predominantly feature semi-detached houses, while the southern area will include row and multi-family houses with an underground garage. The existing green space in the western part will be retained, featuring an underground rainwater retention tank and a modern playground.

The city aims to create a mix of housing types to cater to different needs. The development, based on a winning urban design, will integrate the listed administrative building and retain the existing green space. The project is expected to create up to 138 new homes in Mönchengladbach.
