FBI Awards Leidos $130 Million Contract for Biometric Services

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently granted Leidos a five-and-a-half year contract worth approximately $129.7 million. This contract is aimed at supporting the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program, marking a significant step in the FBI’s efforts to modernize and enhance its biometric identification capabilities.

The contract, valued at $130 million, will see Leidos providing support for the development, maintenance, and improvement of biometric services. This work scope includes collaboration with CJIS testing, verification, and validation teams. The partnership between Leidos and CJIS dates back to 2016, with the collaboration deepening in 2018.

The primary objective of this partnership is to strengthen the FBI’s biometric identification infrastructure, specifically within the CJIS Division. Key deliverables include the continued development and incremental integration of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, which serves as the FBI’s cutting-edge biometric identification platform. The NGI system offers advanced features such as the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern and Rap Back, an essential tool that alerts authorized users of new criminal activity involving individuals in positions of public trust.

This contract cements Leidos’ role as a crucial partner in advancing federal law enforcement technology infrastructure. By providing efficient, large-scale biometric and criminal history information to state, local, federal, and tribal authorities, the FBI aims to further its mission of securing the nation.

Since 2018, Leidos has been closely working with CJIS to develop and integrate the NGI system, recognized as the world’s largest and most efficient electronic repository of biometric and criminal history information. The contract ensures ongoing modernization and operational support for these mission-critical systems, reflecting the FBI’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology for effective law enforcement.
