Medicare hikes premiums and deductibles for 2026, squeezing retiree budgets

Medicare costs are set to rise in 2026, affecting millions of beneficiaries across the US. The increases will apply to premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance for both Part A and Part B plans. These adjustments follow a pattern of annual rises in healthcare expenses.

Inpatient hospital deductibles under Medicare Part A will climb to £1,736 in 2026, up from £1,676 in 2025. For those without enough work history to qualify for premium-free Part A, monthly costs will reach £565, compared to £518 this year.

The 2026 Medicare adjustments will mean higher out-of-pocket expenses for enrollees. Beneficiaries may need to budget for increased premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. Additional savings could also be required for services not covered by Original Medicare.
