Matrix Service Names New CEO as Leadership Transition Begins in 2026
Matrix Service Company, a global leader in specialty engineering and construction, has announced key changes to its leadership team. John R. Hewitt will step down as President and Chief Executive Officer in mid-2026, while Shawn P. Payne takes on expanded responsibilities immediately.
The company operates across the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Korea, serving industries such as energy, petrochemicals, and infrastructure development.
Shawn P. Payne has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, effective right away. He will also serve as President of Engineering & Construction as part of the company's ongoing transformation. His promotion follows over a decade of experience with Matrix Service, having joined in 2012 as Division Manager in Tucson, Arizona. There, he led the firm's expansion into the mining and minerals sector.
Payne is set to succeed John R. Hewitt as President and CEO on June 30, 2026. Hewitt's departure marks the end of his tenure leading the company, which operates in three main segments: Storage and Terminal Solutions, Utility and Power Infrastructure, and Process and Industrial Facilities.
Matrix Service has maintained a strong international presence, with operations in Australia and South Korea. Over the past three years, its projects in these regions have focused on maintenance, fabrication, and infrastructure development, particularly for energy and industrial clients.
The leadership transition will see Shawn P. Payne take full control of Matrix Service Company in two years. His prior roles within the firm and experience in expanding its business lines position him to guide its future direction. The company continues to deliver specialized engineering and construction services across multiple continents.
