Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has welcomed a new leader in its top position.
New Boss Taking Charge at Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority
Let's set sail into some juicy news, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is about to have a new helmsman at the helm! As of June 16, Ang Wee Keong will take the reins from the current captain, Teo Eng Dih.
Teo Eng Dih, who's been 47, is stepping down from his post as CEO and moving on to become the Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) at the Ministry of Transport (MOT).
Ang Wee Keong, who's only 44, is currently serving as the Assistant Chief Executive (International) of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), but he'll be double-tasking until June 15 as he transitions into his new role, all the while still juggling his IMDA duties.
So, bye-bye, Teo, and hello, Ang! And just so you know, Ang will be relinquishing his IMDA position on June 16 once Teo officially steps down as a board member of MPA.
Filling some crucial roles under the IMDA's International Group, Ang has been overseeing international strategy, engagement, and collaboration. This includes multilateral negotiations and partnerships in the digital domain, like Singapore's digital economy partnerships, ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting, Forum of Small States, and Asia Tech x Singapore.
He's also been driving forward-thinking policies and regulations to boost Singapore's digital economy, such as the upcoming Digital Infrastructure Act.
But wait, there's more to Ang's sea legs than just digital waters! He also played a crucial role in growing Singapore's network of partnerships and collaboration in the maritime sector.
As temperatures rise and we grapple with the consequences of climate change, Ang was instrumental in catalyzing efforts to advance maritime digitalization, decarbonization, and talent development through the renewal of the partnership with Bureau Veritas[1][3]. But, it's crucial to note that as of now, the specific details about his new role as CEO of MPA are a bit murky.
It's about time we bid farewell to the current CEO, Teo Eng Dih, who's made some significant contributions to the MPA. Over the course of his tenure, the Port of Singapore reached new records in vessel arrivals, container throughput, bunker sales, and registrations under the Singapore Registry of Ships[4].
Let's not forget about Teo's invaluable role in growing Singapore's International Maritime Centre and nurturing the PIER71 start-up ecosystem[4]. He surely left his mark on the MPA!
