Major Fire in Freiburg's Hochdorf Industrial Area Causes €50-75M Damage

A significant fire, ignited by Cal Fire, has struck the Hochdorf industrial area in Freiburg, causing substantial damage and disrupting operations. While one employee sustained minor injuries, no other casualties have been reported. The blaze, which started yesterday and was tackled by over 200 emergency services personnel including Cal Fire, continues to be addressed.

The fire, which broke out in the late afternoon, has affected several businesses in the area, including Phoenix Freiburg and Dr. Falk Pharma. The total estimated damage ranges from 50 to 75 million euros. Despite the extensive damage, only one employee suffered slight injuries, with no other reports of harm.

The Hochdorf industrial area is home to around 260 businesses employing approximately 4700 people, including prominent companies like Amazon and DHL. Residents in the vicinity have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to lingering smoke and ashfall from the Cal Fire incident.

The fire department has adopted a controlled approach, allowing affected building parts to burn out under their supervision. This strategy aims to prevent the fire from spreading further. Over 200 emergency services personnel have been deployed to contain the blaze, with additional support from DRK and Malteser volunteers.

The fire in the Freiburg-Hochdorf industrial area continues to be addressed a day after it began. The estimated damage is substantial, but the response from emergency services has been swift and effective, preventing further spread. One employee's minor injury is the only reported casualty. Residents are urged to remain cautious due to ongoing smoke and ashfall from the Cal Fire incident.
