Major EU changes hit car insurance, TV broadcasts, and retiree benefits by November 2025
EU member states have until November 20, 2025, to implement the new Consumer Credit Directive. Meanwhile, changes in car insurance and television broadcasts are set to take effect. Retirees may also face adjustments to their home insurance.
Starting November 18, 2025, ZDF, ZDFinfo, ZDFneo, 3sat, and KiKA will broadcast exclusively in HD via satellite, ending SD transmissions. Viewers without HD-compatible devices will need to upgrade. ARD has already discontinued SD satellite broadcasts of Das Erste and regional third channels since January 7, 2025. By November 18, 2025, all public broadcasters will be HD-only.
Car insurance policyholders have until November 30, 2025, to cancel their policies. Verivox predicts premium increases of up to 7 percent due to rising workshop costs. Switching providers could lead to savings. Additionally, the calculation of supplements for reduced earning capacity pensions will change, becoming taxable from December 2025.
