Mahindra Unveils Four New SUV Concepts on NU.IQ Platform

Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian automobile giant, has made a significant stride in the automotive industry by unveiling four new SUV concepts at their Freedom NU event. These concepts, named Vision X, Vision S, Vision SXT, and Vision T, are designed for the C-segment SUV market and offer versatile size and powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric.

Let's delve into the key features and specifications of each concept:

Vision X

The Vision X, designed as the most urban-friendly model in the lineup, is a sub-4-metre urban SUV. It boasts a futuristic styling, sleek design, and 19-inch alloys. This compact SUV is expected to compete with subcompact SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue, with an emphasis on maximising cabin space in a sub-4-metre footprint.

Vision S

The Vision S reflects a boxy, off-road capable SUV with contemporary touches like L-shaped LED lights, roof-mounted lamps, and rugged cladding. Design cues may influence the next-generation Mahindra Bolero. This SUV is designed to be expedition-ready and off-road capable.

Vision SXT

The Vision SXT is a rugged pickup-styled SUV with a flatbed for two spare tires and a strong off-road aesthetic. It blends Thar.e design themes with practical pickup features.

Vision T

The Vision T is the largest concept with a full boxy body, a 227mm ground clearance, five-link rear suspension, and 644 liters of boot space. It could be electric-only with an LFP battery, similar to Mahindra’s BE6 and XEV 9e models, aimed at offering class-leading interior space.

All four models are built on the new NU.IQ modular monocoque platform designed for global safety standards with flexibility for multiple powertrains and drivetrain configurations. The platform supports FWD, AWD, hybrid powertrains, and is built for off-roading with an approach angle of 28 degrees, ramp break over angle of 28.2 degrees, and departure angle of 34.9 degrees.

The Vision T embodies the essence of the Thar in an electrified version with boxy dimensions and a rugged stance. Comfort is a key highlight for the new platform, featuring 5 link rear suspension and DAVINCI Damper technology.

The Vision S seems like a compact SUV that could be the new everyday SUV from Mahindra. The Vision SXT concept showcases a design cues of a pickup-style SUV, possibly a production-bound evolution of the Global Pik-Up concept.

These new concepts demonstrate Mahindra’s strategy to cover multiple SUV segments—from compact urban models to rugged off-roaders and electric SUVs—using a common flexible platform to appeal to both Indian and international markets.

Stay tuned for more details as Mahindra continues to reveal more about these exciting new concepts.
