LAFC Coach Steve Cherundolo Announces Departure, Returns to Germany

Steve Cherundolo, the head coach of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), has announced that he will be stepping down from his post at the end of the 2025 season. This decision comes after a successful tenure with LAFC, having led the team to win both the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup in his first season.

Cherundolo, a former defenseman and the "Mayor of Hannover," has decided to return to Germany after his time in Los Angeles. Raised in San Diego, Cherundolo began his managerial career in Germany at Hannover's academy system.

In a move that signifies a personal or professional motivation connected to returning to his long-time club's country, Cherundolo has listed his cottage in L.A.'s Little Holmby neighborhood for sale at around $4.7 million.

Meanwhile, in a different realm, Cherundolo has also listed a secluded oceanfront residence in Vail, CO, referred to as "The Indigo at Vie L'Ven." The property, listed for sale at $27,000,000 USD, includes a fireside living room with a wine cooler-equipped bar and a sun-filled sitting area, an office, a wood-paneled library with a fireplace, and a formal dining room that opens out to a deck. The updated kitchen features custom cabinetry, marble countertops, an apron sink, a La Cornue range, and a breakfast nook with banquette seating. The backyard of the property has room for a swimming pool.

The main house features original beveled windows, polished hardwood floors, high ceilings, arched doorways, and decorative millwork. The residential property offers a two-story main house plus a guest suite atop the detached garage, totalling four bedrooms and four baths in approximately 2,800 square feet. The primary suite features a private balcony, a walk-in closet, and a dual-vanity bath with a glass-encased shower. The two-car garage has been finished as additional living space.

Enzo Ricciardelli and Shen Schulz of the Beverly Hills Brokerage at Sotheby's International Realty hold the listing for the Vail property.

Interestingly, the cottage in L.A. was bought by Cherundolo barely three years ago. The cottage was originally designed in the early 1930s by architect Percy Parke Lewis, known for Westwood's Village Theatre and the Chateau Colline apartment building.

Cherundolo's departure from LAFC marks the end of an era for the club, but his return to Germany is a testament to his enduring love for the country and his former club. As he steps away from the world of MLS, fans and colleagues alike wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
