Lufthansa executive discloses the preferred resumes and factors influencing psychological competence assessments
Lufthansa Announces Ambitious Recruitment Drive
Germany's flag carrier airline, Lufthansa, has announced plans to hire 10,000 new employees by 2025, marking a significant expansion of its workforce. This ambitious recruitment drive was revealed at the end of July in Frankfurt, where the MDAX-listed company is headquartered.
The new hires will be spread across various roles, including over 2000 flight attendants, 1400 ground operations staff, 1300 technicians, and 800 pilots. Approximately half of the new hires will be based in Germany.
Claudia Rautenberg, the Vice President of HR Management Executives, Employer Branding, and Talent Development at Lufthansa, is leading this recruitment drive. Rautenberg's role involves making Lufthansa an attractive employer for various professions, and she is knowledgeable about what applicants seek and the kind of personalities and skills needed at Lufthansa.
Lufthansa aims to attract different professional groups as employees. For technical and related roles, the company is heavily investing in apprenticeships and dual study programs. In 2025, Lufthansa Technik, a key Lufthansa Group company, welcomed a record 375 new apprentices and dual students, with around 90% of these new apprenticeships focusing on technical and industrial professions.
The recruitment process for technical apprenticeships and dual study programs is structured and focuses on attracting candidates motivated to build careers in aviation technology and operations with formal education combined with practical training. For other roles such as flight attendants and pilots, Lufthansa uses a combination of online applications, assessment centers, interviews, and simulator evaluations.
Lufthansa is optimistic about the current year 2025 due to strong ticket demand and lower fuel costs, despite the turbulent global economy. The adjusted operating profit (adjusted EBIT) of Lufthansa is expected to significantly exceed 1.6 billion euros in 2025. The adjusted operating profit increased by 27 percent to 871 million euros in the second quarter of 2023.
The selection process includes a psychological aptitude test for applicants, reflecting Lufthansa's commitment to hiring individuals with the right mindset and skills for the job. The recruitment efforts by Lufthansa are part of its goal to grow not only financially but also in terms of personnel.
With these recruitment plans, Lufthansa is positioning itself for a strong future, aiming to attract talented individuals who can help the airline maintain its position as a leader in the aviation industry.
