Lower Saxony launches Project Agency to fast-track local funding by 2027

Lower Saxony is transforming its Project Workshop into a full Project Agency to speed up funding for local communities. The state government has pledged €150,000 to expand advisory services for smaller municipalities. Officials say the move will make funding processes clearer and more efficient by 2027.

The Project Workshop began as a pilot in 2022 before expanding across Lower Saxony in 2025. Around 150 municipalities have since used its services to navigate funding applications. Now, the state is upgrading it to a permanent Project Agency with guaranteed funding until the end of 2027.

Regional Development Minister Melanie Walter wants the agency to centralise expertise and cut red tape. Her team will analyse common hurdles faced by towns and develop simpler application procedures. Lessons from local experiences will also improve existing tools like the Funding Finder platform and the Lower Saxony Municipal Funding Act. NSGB President Marco Trips stressed the need for faster, more transparent funding. He wants the new agency to align financial support with real community needs. The €150,000 boost will help small and medium-sized towns access advice more easily.

The Project Agency will now take over from the workshop, offering structured guidance and sharing best practices. With state backing until 2027, it aims to reduce delays and confusion in funding applications. Municipalities across Lower Saxony will receive more targeted support as a result.
