Lower Saxony increases subsidy for owner-occupied housing
Lower Saxony has boosted financial support for homeowners looking to buy or renovate their properties. The changes, which took effect on 1 December, increase the maximum funding per project from €75,000 to €100,000. The move comes as part of wider efforts to address housing shortages and encourage property improvements across the region.
The updated scheme is open only to owner-occupiers, with a dedicated advisor available to guide applicants through the process. Eligibility checks can also be done online via a tool on the city’s official website.
Income limits for housing subsidies in Lower Saxony were already adjusted in March, ensuring more households could qualify. The latest increase in base funding aims to reduce pressure on the competitive housing market while making renovations more affordable. In Osnabrück, the local Housing Promotion Office handles applications for owner-occupied homes within city boundaries. While the broader subsidy changes apply regionally, specific offices like Osnabrück’s provide direct support to residents.
The higher subsidies now offer up to €100,000 per project, retroactive to 1 December. Homeowners can access personalised advice or use the online eligibility tool to apply. The changes are designed to help more people secure or upgrade their homes in a challenging market.
