In a statement, Devon County Council's cabinet member for finance, Phil Twiss, expressed delight about the budget inclusion for highways. The 2025/26 budget, as proposed, includes an additional £4m specifically for highways to address the long-standing issue of potholes. This extra funding comes as a result of reductions in other departmental spending and increased income, leading to an overall rise of 5.9% in the budget. The total spend for the 2025/26 budget, as proposed, is over £784.1m. Twiss stated that the council receives numerous complaints about potholes on roads and that this additional funding will be used to tackle the problem effectively. The council's target budget for the new financial year was agreed at the beginning of January. Meanwhile, the full council will meet on Thursday, 20 February, to finalise the budget for 2025/26. The meeting will be held to discuss and approve the proposed budget, ensuring that the necessary funds are allocated to the right areas. Apart from the budget news, it's worth noting that the UK's transportation sector will gather for the CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025. The event, scheduled to take place at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London, will celebrate achievements and innovations in road maintenance. More information about the CiTTi Awards can be found at www.cittiawards.co.uk. The awards are a significant event in the calendar for the transportation sector, recognising excellence and progress in road maintenance across the UK. Andrew Leadbetter, the finance minister at Devon County Council, made a statement regarding the £4 million boost to the road construction budget for 2025/26. The additional funds will undoubtedly contribute to the improvement of the county's roads, making travel safer and more comfortable for all residents and visitors.
