Yekaterinburg Announces Revised Tender for Trolleybus Procurement
The Municipality of Yekaterinburg has unveiled a new tender for the supply of fifteen three-section trolleybuses. This tender comes after the cancellation of the initial tender announced at the end of March.
The new trolleybuses are scheduled to feature a full low-floor design, modern amenities such as air conditioners, climate control, displays, and USB ports, and have the capacity to accommodate over 150 passengers. The anticipated arrival date of the new trolleybuses in Yekaterinburg is by the end of January 2026, as reported by JustMedia.ru.
The cancellation of the initial tender and subsequent changes in the tender specifications were prompted by a complaint from the Uraltransmash plant. An investigation by the antimonopoly service determined that the technical specifications could potentially limit the number of participants due to the competition's conditions.
Representatives of the Uraltransmash plant asserted that the tender documentation was formulated in a way that only the Vityaz-M carriage met the parameters, while their three-section carriage, named "Dostoevsky," did not fit due to the type of carriage (bidirectional instead of unidirectional).
Previously, DK.RU reported that Yekaterinburg could potentially become the third city in Russia to test autonomous trolleybuses, following Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, the exact dates for the experiment have yet to be determined. Moreover, a planned extension of the trolleybus line between Yekaterinburg and Verkhnyaya Pyshma to Middle Uralsk was also reported on DK.RU.
In terms of the tender cancellation reasons and changes made, further details are yet to be disclosed. To obtain precise information about the Yekaterinburg trolleybus tender, it would be advisable to consult local news sources or official announcements from the relevant authorities in Yekaterinburg.
- The revised tender for the supply of trolleybuses in Yekaterinburg could now potentially open opportunities for participation from various industries, such as finance or transportation, considering changes made to the initial tender specifications.
- The automotive industry, particularly manufacturers in Russia, could be closely following the Yekaterinburg trolleybus tender developments, as the revisions might influence the type of trolleybuses that will be supplied, including the choice between bidirectional or unidirectional carriages.
