Lithuania's Klaipėda Port to Lead Baltic Green Hydrogen Production
A significant milestone is approaching for Lithuania's green energy sector. Klaipėda Port is set to become the first in the Baltic States to produce and supply green hydrogen, with construction of the production and refueling station nearing completion.
The electrolyzer, a key component of the project, has successfully passed factory tests and will soon be shipped to Klaipėda Port for installation and on-site testing. Clean fuel production is expected to commence next year.
The construction of the station is progressing swiftly, with Gevalda expected to complete the work by the end of this year. All construction and installation works are scheduled for completion by February next year.
The total estimated cost of the project is approximately €12 million, with around €6 million financed by EU funds. The station will house a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) type electrolyzer, producing about 127 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
Klaipėda Port's green hydrogen project is poised to contribute significantly to Lithuania's efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With the successful testing of the electrolyzer and the upcoming completion of the station, the port is set to become a pioneer in green hydrogen production and supply in the Baltic region.
