Lineker's Goalhanger Podcasts Surge to £1.4M Profit in 2022

Gary Lineker's podcast venture, Goalhanger Podcasts, has seen a remarkable surge in profits, reaching £1.4 million in 2022. The company's growth has been accompanied by an expansion of its workforce and a significant increase in its cash reserves.

Lineker, who stepped down as Match of the Day presenter in May 2023 after a 25-year tenure, launched Goalhanger Podcasts in 2019 with Tony Pastor and Jack Davenport. The company has since grown from a small team of seven employees to 16 in 2022, reflecting its expanding operations.

The company's success is evident in its financial figures. Retained earnings increased significantly from £590,000 in 2021 to £2.03 million in 2022. Cash reserves also saw a substantial jump, from £560,000 to £2.7 million in the same period. This growth can be attributed to the popularity of its shows, including The Rest Is Football, The Rest Is Politics, and The Rest Is History, which have surpassed 400 million audio downloads and 85 million YouTube views.

Despite stepping down from Match of the Day, Lineker continues to be involved with the BBC, set to cover the 2026 World Cup and the FA Cup from the next season. Goalhanger Podcasts, under his leadership, has become a significant player in the podcast production scene, with its impressive financial growth and expanding workforce.
