Lichtenberg's Housing Boom: 2,000 New Apartments on the Way
Lichtenberg is set to see a significant increase in housing with two major projects underway. Together, 'Ferdinand's Garden' and 'Weiße Taube' will bring a total of 2,000 new apartments to the eastern edge of the district. However, local politicians have raised concerns about the lack of school places to accommodate the influx of new residents.
The 'Ferdinand's Garden' project, expected to be completed by the end of 2023, will offer 378 rental apartments, 78 of which will be at controlled rents. It will also include 17 commercial units and a garage with space for 160 vehicles. Meanwhile, the 'Weiße Taube' project, planned by the Dutch Van Caem Group, will build around 1,600 apartments, along with additional commercial space and a kindergarten. This project will also feature around 340 parking spaces and a public park. Both projects are situated between Ferdinand-Schultze-Straße, Plauener Straße, and Landsberger Allee.
The architectural concept for the 'Weiße Taube' project is planned by Marc Kocher Architekten and Deluse Architects. The 'Ferdinand's Garden' project began in 2020 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The 'Ferdinand's Garden' and 'Weiße Taube' projects aim to provide much-needed housing in Lichtenberg. With a combined total of 2,000 apartments, these projects are expected to significantly increase the district's population. However, local politicians have stressed the need for additional school places to accommodate the growing community.
