lengthy incarceration in Volkswagen scandal: Boxing Federation experiences president's resignation

Pivotal Volkswagen Executive Implicated in Dieselgate Scandal Steps Down as German Boxing Federation President

The German Boxing Federation (DBV) has announced the resignation of its president, Jens Hadler, effective immediately. The decision comes amid reports of Hadler's conviction in relation to the diesel emissions scandal at Volkswagen.

Hadler, who once headed diesel engine development at VW, was found guilty by the Braunschweig Regional Court of orchestrating a particularly serious fraud by implementing software that manipulated emissions tests. The 59-year-old received a four and a half year prison sentence without probation.

The diesel scandal first came to light in September 2015, when Volkswagen admitted to installing illegal software in certain diesel engines, reducing nitrogen oxides emission during testing but not on the road. The manipulation affected approximately 11 million vehicles worldwide, with Volkswagen paying more than 32 billion euros in fines, compensation, and legal costs to date.

Volkswagen-related vehicles involved in the scandal totaled 2.3 million, causing 2.1 billion euros in damage, primarily due to the actions of high-ranking managers, including Hadler.

The DBV lauded Hadler as a significant personality who contributed direction-setting impulses to the federation. He was transparent in disclosing developments in the ongoing Braunschweig trial to state associations, the board, and sports-relevant institutions. The federation's well-being and reputation remained his top priority.

A successor for Hadler has already been chosen. Mir Farid Vatanparast has been unanimously selected as the new co-opted president, who will manage the federation's affairs until the election congress. Hadler expressed his satisfaction with the board's leadership and noted his optimism in Vatanparast's suitability for the role.
