Leapmotor plans to target the higher-end market segment with the introduction of its D-series product line.
Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to make a splash in the premium EV market with its new D-Series. The company's senior vice president, Cao Li, has confirmed that the first model in the D-series will be a flagship full-size SUV, targeting the RMB 300,000 ($41,840) market.
The first D-series model is expected to be the largest full-size SUV in the Chinese market this year. It will feature the most advanced technology from Leapmotor and the industry, positioning it as a competitor in the premium price segment.
Leapmotor's COO, Jun, has revealed that the model will be offered in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) options. This decision reflects Leapmotor's commitment to providing consumers with a wide range of choices.
The announcement of the D-series comes after a successful launch of the B01 model from the B series on July 24. The B01 secured 10,132 locked-in orders within 72 hours of its launch, demonstrating strong consumer interest in Leapmotor's offerings.
In the first half of the year, Leapmotor delivered 221,664 vehicles, a 155.68% increase year-on-year. The company's impressive growth continues, with 48,006 vehicles delivered in June, a 138.65% increase year-on-year and a 6.52% increase month-on-month.
Leapmotor's stock, traded under the symbol HKG: 9863, has been on a steady rise, reflecting investor confidence in the company's growth and future prospects.
While details about the first D-series model are scarce, it is known that it will be more advanced than the renderings released by a Weibo blogger. Cao Li, Leapmotor's senior vice president, stated that the first model in the D series is more advanced than the renderings suggest.
The first D-series model will not be Leapmotor's most expensive offering. That title belongs to the C series, which is currently the most expensive in Leapmotor's lineup. However, the C series is only about half the price of Li Auto's EREV models, making it a more affordable option for consumers.
In comparison, the B01, less than half the price of Tesla's Model 3, has proven to be a popular choice among consumers. The B01 also has a larger size compared to the B01, offering more space and comfort.
The first D-series model is expected to be unveiled soon, as it has entered the summer testing phase. With its advanced technology, premium features, and competitive pricing, the D-series is poised to make a significant impact in the EV market.
