Leading Polish retailers prepare to align with Europe's top purchasing and promotions association, EMD.

In a significant move for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, European Marketing Distribution (EMD) AG has announced a strategic partnership with a local purchasing alliance in Poland. The alliance, formed by Grupa Eurocash, Grupa Chorten, and Netto, represents a combined market presence of approximately 20,000 stores across Poland.

This partnership offers new opportunities for manufacturers active in the FMCG sector, as the alliance aims to expand its European procurement options and achieve significant savings in their supply chain. By joining EMD, these Polish retailers will increase their sourcing capabilities, potentially leading to lower costs for consumers and enhanced competitiveness in the market.

Pawel Surowka, CEO of Eurocash, expressed his pleasure at becoming a member of EMD, stating, "This alliance will position the new Polish joint venture as the second-largest retail group in Poland, further solidifying EMD's position as a major buying and marketing group in Europe."

The new member companies, founded by the Eurocash Group, Chorten Group, and Netto, will become the most significant purchasing community in Poland. This move aligns with EMD's strategy to expand its influence across Europe by integrating strong local players into its network. It demonstrates EMD's ability to attract and integrate new members, bolstering its market leverage and influence.

Philippe Gruyters, CEO of EMD, expressed excitement about the new membership, stating it opens up new procurement opportunities. The alliance reflects a trend in the retail sector where companies are increasingly forming partnerships to enhance their purchasing power and competitiveness. This development also underscores the importance of collaborative strategies in navigating the complex European retail landscape.

EMD, headquartered in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, has been a recognized partner in the FMCG industry since 1989. The EMD Retail Group, which includes the new Polish member, will collaborate with selected renowned and successful retail companies from 2026. The member companies of EMD are active on the following markets: Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Spain, Norway, Czech Republic, and South Korea.

In addition to its European operations, Lotte, an associated member of EMD, is also active on the Vietnamese and Indonesian markets, in addition to South Korea and Japan. EMD develops and procures highly efficient and sustainably produced private label concepts for the benefit of consumers. The goal of this alliance is to enter Europe's leading purchasing alliance, EMD, and to further strengthen its market presence and capabilities.
