Latvian Firm Wins Major Drone Order After Ukraine Tests
A Latvian company, later revealed as Origin Robotics, has secured a significant purchase order after successfully completing drone tests in Ukraine. This victory comes amidst an international competition involving 163 entrepreneurs from 57 countries.
The procurement process began with 14 companies, including the Latvian firm, being awarded initial test batch contracts. Following further rigorous testing, only Origin Robotics, in cooperation with Estonian firm DefSecIntel, managed to pass and secure the purchase order. The company's success is a testament to the growing strength of Latvia's defence industry, bolstered by its support for Ukraine.
The winning drone defence system, 'Eirshield', was developed jointly by Origin Robotics and DefSecIntel. Despite the details of the winning company and the drone remaining undisclosed, the success highlights the effectiveness of the Drone Coalition, led by Latvia and the UK, in supplying combat drones to Ukraine. The coalition comprises 20 member states, demonstrating a united front in supporting Ukraine's defence efforts.
