UFC Today: UFC London Fight Card - Edwards Vs. Brady

Leon Edwards (22-4-0-1) officially joined UFC in late 2014. He held an impressive 8-1 record beforehand, defending the BAMMA British welterweight title successfully.

Edwards began his UFC journey with a split decision loss to Claudio Silva in November 2014. This was followed by a knockout win and a "Performance of the Night" bonus against Seth Baczynski and a decision victory over Pawel Pawlak.

Facing Kamaru Usman in December 2015 on a UFC on Fox card, Edwards suffered his second defeat via a unanimous decision. This loss marked the last time Edwards tasted defeat in a UFC contest.

Following his loss to Usman, Edwards won several matches, including decisions over Dominic Waters, Albert Tumenov, Vicente Luque, and Bryan Barberena. The win over Barberena in September 2017 earned Edwards the No. 15 spot in the welterweight rankings.

The fight between Edwards and Kamaru Usman took place over eight years ago and remains his only defeat in the UFC.

After this winning streak, Edwards went on a four-fight winning streak, securing three decision wins and one TKO. This impressive streak placed him at No. 3 in the rankings. Edwards was initially set to face former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in March 2020, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, he was forced to withdraw, causing the event to eventually be scrapped.

the cancellation of the Woodley fight led to Edwards wanting to fight Jorge Masvidal, someone ranked ahead of him or for the UFC welterweight crown. Unfortunately, these fights were not offered to Edwards, leading to his inactivity. This inactivity resulted in the UFC removing him from the rankings, a decision that didn't sit well with Edwards.

Just one day after being removed from the rankings, the UFC announced Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev for a UFC Fight Night event in December 2020. With this booking, the UFC reinstated Edwards into the rankings at No. 3, though that fight never took place as both fighters tested positive for COVID. Chimaev then pulled out of the rebooked fight due to lingering COVID effects. The UFC then attempted to book the Edwards vs. Muhammad contest, as mentioned above.

Edwards defeated Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June 2021, setting up a rematch with then-champion Usman for the welterweight title in March 2023. Edwards secured the title with a majority decision win. Edwards successfully defended his title in December 2023 with a unanimous decision against Colby Covington.

Edwards' undefeated streak came to an end against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304, with Muhammad taking the title from him via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46).

Currently, Edwards is the No. 1 ranked fighter in the official UFC welterweight rankings. He was initially scheduled to face Jack Della Maddalena on this card, but Della Maddalena was moved to the main event of UFC 315 opposite Belal Muhammad.

UFC Today: UFC London Co-Main Event: Jan Blachowicz Vs. Carlos Ulberg

Blachowicz (29-10-1) has been with UFC since October 2014 and has amassed a 12-7-1 UFC record since. Blachowicz won the vacant UFC light heavyweight title in September 2020 by KO'ing Dominick Reyes.

At 41 years old, Blachowicz is still a force to be reckoned with. He defended his crown in March 2021 with a unanimous decision win over then-UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Teixeira took the title from him in October 2021, winning the UFC 267 fight via second-round submission.

Blachowicz has a 1-1-1 record since that defeat, with his last "real" victory coming against Israel Adesanya. He has a TKO win over Aleksander Rakic in May 2022 and fought Magomed Ankalaev to a draw in December 2022. In his most recent outing, Blachowicz lost a split-decision to Alex Pereira in July 2023.

Contest Weigh-In: Edwards vs. Brady for UFC Fight Night

Blachowicz was set to face Rakic in a rematch in January, but a shoulder injury forced him to undergo surgery.

Blachowicz is still the No. 3 ranked fighter in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings.

Ulberg (11-1) joined the UFC following a contract win on Dana White's Contender Series in March 2021. His UFC journey began with a loss, but since then, he has gone 7-0 with five stoppage victories. The 34-year-old is coming off a November 2024 decision win over former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.

Ulberg opened as a -200 favorite over the +165 Blachowicz, with most of the bets (64 percent) on Blachowicz and the money in Ulberg's favor (73 percent).

Despite being a former UFC champ, Blachowicz is 41 years old, 1-2-1 in his past four fights, with his last "real" victory against Israel Adesanya. While Jan Blachowicz may carry weight as a former champ, the timing favors Ulberg in this fight based on his youth, power, speed, striking volume, and fighting ability.
