Marvin Vettori (#8 UFC middleweight) returns to the Octagon following a unanimous decision loss to Jared Cannonier in June 2023. Prior to that, he had a win over Dolidze in March 2023. An injury forced Vettori out of a planned April 2024 match with Brendan Allen.
Vettori debuted in the UFC in 2016, going 2-2-1 in his first five fights. After a split decision loss to Israel Adesanya in April 2018, he put together a five-fight winning streak that earned him a rematch with Adesanya, who was the UFC middleweight champion. Vettori lost that bout via decision.
Vettori is 2-2 in his last four fights.
Roman Dolidze (#11 UFC middleweight) enters UFC Vegas 104. He joined the UFC in July 2020 with a 2-1 record. Following a March 2021 decision loss to Trevin Giles, Dolidze went on a four-fight winning streak, but that ended with his loss to Vettori. A majority decision loss to Nassourdine Imavov followed, but he beat Anthony Smith at UFC 303. In his latest bout, he defeated Kevin Holland due to Holland's broken ribs.

The first fight between these two saw a closely contested striking battle. Dolidze had the power, but Vettori used effective combinations and mixed up his targets and techniques.

Dolidze landed 71 out of 192 strikes (36%). Vettori landed 38 leg strikes, 8 body strikes, and 60 head strikes, while Dolidze focused on headhunting, landing 52 out of 192 strikes on Vettori's head.1

"I broke my shoulder, it popped out, and ruined my rotator cuff, my labrum, and even my bicep," Vettori said (via MMA Mania). "It was a heavy surgery, you know. A lot of tendons were torn and messed up. Tendons take a while to heal."

"He hasn't fought in a while," Dolidze said (via MMA Junkie). "Everybody says maybe it's bad for him, he hasn't fought in so long. But I never think about the fights from this point of view. I just understand that we are all changing, evolving. Maybe he has time to change something in his game.
"But anyway, I still think this fight can be the same, how he was working and what he was doing with me. Because I have power. He knows. Everybody knows I'm powerful. Everybody knows my ground game and grappling. That's why it's always hard to find keys with me. But I still think that I need to be more calm and control my anger, and that's the key to win this fight."
