Lancaster County Secures $150K Grant to Combat Homelessness Through Housing Services

The Lancaster County Homelessness Coalition has received a one-time state grant of $150,000. The funding will support services aimed at helping individuals and families secure stable housing. Applications for nonprofits to access these funds opened earlier this week.

The grant comes from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) Fund, established under a 2010 state law. It will finance transitional housing services for one year, beginning in April. These services are designed to move people out of shelters or off the streets as quickly as possible.

Nonprofit organisations that provide homelessness support can apply for a share of the funds. Successful applicants will receive between $40,000 and $145,000. Case workers will then assist grant recipients in finding more permanent housing solutions.

The coalition will announce the winning applicants on March 26. While the exact number of organisations applying remains undisclosed, the focus remains on expanding housing stability across Lancaster County.

The $150,000 grant will fund transitional housing initiatives for a full year. Recipients will work with case managers to secure long-term accommodation. The programme aims to reduce homelessness by providing faster access to stable living conditions.
