Krefeld Customs Raid Uncovers Social Security Fraud and Illegal Employment
The Krefeld Customs Office recently conducted an operation targeting suspected social security contribution irregularities and illegal employment. The investigation, supported by federal and local police, uncovered several cases of non-compliance and benefit fraud.
On September 17, 2025, the Krefeld Customs Office, accompanied by police forces, raided a construction site near Krefeld Central Station. Around 60 officers were involved in the operation, which focused on ensuring social security compliance and combating illegal employment.
The raid led to the discovery of two cases of suspected incorrect social security contributions and one case of suspected benefit fraud involving a person receiving unemployment benefits. Additionally, two individuals without valid residence permits, a Serbian and a Kosovar, were found to be illegally employed on the site. This operation follows a previous intervention by the Customs Office at a construction company in Krefeld, which resulted in the termination of illegal employment.
The Krefeld Customs Office will continue to investigate the suspected cases, working to ensure fair competition and protect workers. The operation highlights the authority's commitment to combating illegal employment and maintaining social security compliance in the region.
