Kisan Samman Diwas: From MSP to seed park, CM outlines UP's farm policy roadmap

Uttar Pradesh marked Kisan Samman Diwas with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honouring farmers and announcing key benefits for the agricultural sector. The event included awards for outstanding contributions, financial relief measures, and the launch of new farming equipment. Farmers across the state were recognised for record-breaking production and increased earnings in recent years.

The celebrations began with Chief Minister Adityanath paying tribute to former Prime Minister Charan Singh on his 123rd birth anniversary. The day, observed as Kisan Samman Diwas, saw the distribution of tractor keys to five farmers, along with the flag-off of 25 new tractors.

Adityanath also presented awards to top-performing farmers and farmer producer organisations (FPOs) for their achievements in crop and horticultural farming. Among the recipients was Sandhya Singh, who received the Vishisht Mahila Kisan Award for her contributions. In a major financial move, the state government announced the waiver of loans linked to 1.6 million private tubewells. The scheme, costing ₹3,600 crore annually, aims to ease the burden on farmers. Additionally, over ₹75,000 crore has been transferred to farmers’ accounts as sugarcane payments in the last eight years—far exceeding the total from 1996 to 2017. The state has seen a surge in crop production, with increased yields in paddy, wheat, gram, mustard, bajra, and maize. Sugarcane farmers in Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Bahraich districts set a new record by producing 1,000 quintals per hectare. To support this growth, the government raised sugarcane prices, fixing the early variety rate at ₹400 per quintal for the 2025-26 crushing season. Infrastructure for agricultural research has also expanded, with 20 new Krishi Vigyan Kendras established in the past eight years. Uttar Pradesh now has 89 such centres—the highest number across nine climatic zones in any state.

The initiatives announced on Kisan Samman Diwas aim to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s farming sector through financial support, modern equipment, and research facilities. With higher crop yields, record sugarcane production, and expanded infrastructure, the state continues to prioritise agricultural growth and farmer welfare.
