A Logistics Hub of Superlatives: Silleno and Schmidt Group Plan Facility for Over One Million Tons of Polyethylene Annually in Atyrau Region

Kazakhstan's Silleno and Germany's Karl Schmidt Spedition GmbH & Co. (KSS), part of the SCHMIDT Group, have signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to build a major logistics complex in Kazakhstan's Atyrau region. The project is also a key component of the large-scale initiative to construct a polyethylene plant in western Kazakhstan.

The EPC contract signing ceremony was attended by Silleno's CEO, Mukhtar Autbayev, and SCHMIDT Group's managing director, Thomas Schmidt. The agreement marks a critical step in developing the industrial infrastructure for the future petrochemical complex.

The planned logistics hub will have a capacity of up to 1.25 million tons of polyethylene per year, featuring facilities for receiving, packaging, storing, and shipping plastic granules. Distribution will serve both Kazakhstan's domestic market and multiple export destinations, utilizing rail and road transport.

Launch Scheduled for Late 2028

According to Kazakh outlet CaspianLife, the project comprises eleven separate facilities, including storage silos, packaging and production buildings, warehouses, loading zones, a container terminal, workshops, administrative offices, and energy infrastructure. The complex is set to begin operations by the end of 2028.

Once completed, the site will become one of Kazakhstan's largest logistics hubs for the petrochemical industry, designed to efficiently handle the growing output of the planned polyethylene plant while supporting international supply chains.

Karl Schmidt Spedition is a globally active specialist in logistics solutions for the chemical and plastics industries, with decades of experience in bulk material handling. The company operates an extensive network of locations, vehicles, and specialized containers worldwide.

The collaboration with Silleno aligns with the SCHMIDT Group's track record of developing logistics centers for polymer processing and distribution. Industry analysts view the partnership as a strategic and logical expansion of its portfolio.

The polyethylene project in Atyrau is one of Kazakhstan's most significant industrial undertakings, reflecting the country's broader efforts to boost domestic petrochemical production and reduce reliance on raw material exports.
