Kazakhstan Signs $4.2B Deal with Wabtec for 300 Locomotives
The Head of State has signed agreements with American company Wabtec worth around $4.2 billion during a working visit to the U.S. The agreements outline the production of 300 enhanced freight locomotives in our country and their maintenance.
Wabtec, a global leader in transportation technology, has been a main partner in modernizing Kazakhstan's railway industry. The company opened a technological and engineering center in Kazakhstan in July 2024, serving as a hub for innovation and training personnel. Wabtec's locomotive assembly plant in Astana, established in 2009, has seen over $230 million invested and over 600 locomotives produced. The plant has a 45% localization rate and has supplied locomotives to KTZ and for export.
The agreements signed with Wabtec are expected to further boost the country's freight train industry. The production of 300 enhanced freight locomotives and their maintenance will contribute to the modernization and efficiency of the railway network.
