The upcoming July 4th holiday weekend has been flagged as a high-risk period for cargo theft, with notable incidents already reported. E-cigarettes worth $700,000 were stolen in Eastvale, California, while apparel valued at $540,000 was taken in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Medical supplies worth $439,895 were also targeted in Davenport, Florida.

Experts have warned that extended business closures during holidays create favorable conditions for cargo thieves. States with high transport volumes and key traffic corridors, such as California, Texas, Illinois, New York, and Florida, are often targeted. These states have important transportation hubs and are frequently affected by high volumes of goods in transit.

Verisk CargoNet has issued an advisory warning of significantly increased cargo theft risk during the upcoming holiday week. The peak risk days are July 1 and July 3, with theft activity concentrated around extended weekend closures. Cargo theft incidents have escalated in recent years, according to Verisk's data. Common targets include non-alcoholic beverages, vehicle accessories, computer electronics, and major appliances.

Notable thefts during this year's July 4th holiday include e-cigarettes, apparel, and medical supplies. States with high transport volumes and key traffic corridors are particularly vulnerable.
