Journey from Mecklar to Hünfeld

The grid operator TenneT has taken a significant step forward in its plans to increase capacities for renewable energy, with the submission of an application for approval for the "Fulda-Main Line" project to the Federal Network Agency. This planned electricity transmission line, scheduled to start construction in 2026, is intended to address the growing need for increased capacities due to the rise in renewable energy. The project, which involves routes through Mecklar, Bad Hersfeld, Eiterfeld, Hunfeld, Dipperz, and past Fulda towards Bavaria, will mainly be laid over power masts. However, in Hunfeld and Dipperz, underground cables will also be used to minimise disruption to local communities. Extensive discussions with landowners and municipalities have been held prior to the submission of the application, and these discussions are ongoing. TenneT's spokesperson, Thomas Wagner, discussed the project with HIT RADIO FFH, emphasising the importance of collaboration and transparency throughout the process. The "Fulda-Main Line" project is currently under regulatory review and approval process. While the exact date for the issuance of the construction permit has not been publicly announced, TenneT anticipates it to be issued in the coming year. The anticipated timeline for the construction and power flow may be subject to changes or delays, but construction work is expected to start at the end of the same year. The project will pass close to inhabited areas in Hunfeld and Dipperz, and TenneT is committed to ensuring minimal impact on these communities. The exact route of the "Fulda-Main Line" can be found on TenneT's website, providing transparency and allowing local residents to stay informed about the project's progress. The purpose of the "Fulda-Main Line" is to increase capacities for renewable energy, a crucial step in Germany's transition towards a more sustainable energy future. Power is expected to start flowing for the first time in 2029 on the "Fulda-Main Line", marking a significant milestone in this transition. As the "Fulda-Main Line" project continues to progress, TenneT remains committed to open dialogue with landowners, municipalities, and the public, ensuring that all voices are heard and concerns are addressed. With the growing need for increased capacities for renewable energy, the "Fulda-Main Line" project is a promising step towards a greener future.
