Huawei's Shangjie H5 Set to Launch with Assisted Driving System
Huawei's latest venture, the Shangjie H5, is set to make its debut in the automotive industry. This model, a joint venture between Huawei and SAIC Motor, has been making waves in China, with its official launch scheduled for September.
The Shangjie H5 has already been listed in a regulatory filing catalog by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and it will begin pre-sales on August 25. The executive director of Huawei and chairman of the consumer business group, Richard Yu, was recently seen test-driving the Shangjie H5 with Jia Jianxu, president of SAIC Motor.
The Shangjie H5 is the fifth brand under the HIMA umbrella, which also includes Aito from Seres Group, Luxeed from Chery, Stelato from BAIC Group, and Maextro from Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC). The Shangjie H5 is expected to be the most affordable model under HIMA, aiming to offer a more accessible electric vehicle (EV) option.
The Shangjie H5 will be equipped with Huawei's ADS 4 assisted driving system, promising a seamless driving experience. It will be available in both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variants. The BEV version boasts a CLTC range of up to 655 kilometers, while the EREV version offers a combined range of over 1,300 kilometers.
While the actual price of the Shangjie H5 is yet to be announced, it is expected to be lower than the rumored range of RMB 180,000 to RMB 230,000, making it a competitive option in the EV market. The current cheapest models under the HIMA umbrella, the Aito M5 and Luxeed S7, start at RMB 229,800. With a starting price below $25,000, the Shangjie H5 is poised to attract a wide range of consumers.
In terms of dimensions, the Shangjie H5 measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,664 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. A dedicated factory for Shangjie is planned for the future, according to Jia Jianxu's remarks in April.
The Shangjie H5's entry into the market signals Huawei's commitment to diversifying its business portfolio and expanding into the EV sector. With its advanced technology and affordable pricing, the Shangjie H5 is set to make a significant impact in the EV market.
