Jeep is making some exciting moves in the automotive world, extending the availability of the powerful 6.4L Hemi V8 engine to more models and launching its first "trail-rated" battery-electric vehicle, the Recon.

Starting with the Wrangler Rubicon 392, the Hemi engine delivers a whopping 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Now, Jeep is planning to extend this powerhouse beyond the Wrangler, with confirmation that the Gladiator will soon follow suit. The CEO of Jeep has explicitly stated plans to leverage the 392 V8 across the lineup, suggesting that other models may also benefit from this powerful engine option in the future.

Currently, the Gladiator offers engine options such as the 3.6L V6 and the 3.0L EcoDiesel, but the 6.4L V8 is expected to be released imminently. The Wrangler Rubicon 392’s 6.4L HEMI V8 is confirmed to continue being available indefinitely, reassuring V8 fans of a sustained offering.

In addition to the extended use of the 6.4L Hemi V8, Jeep is also making strides in electrification. The brand is launching the all-new Recon, its first battery-electric vehicle, in November. This marks Jeep's entry into the electric vehicle market and further cements their commitment to offering a diverse range of powertrains.

Jeep is also launching seven vehicles in seven months, including the Compass in Europe, Commander in the Middle East, Avenger in South America, and four North American models. Among these are a refreshed Grand Wagoneer for 2026 and an updated Grand Cherokee with powertrain changes, new styling, and more value.

The CEO of Jeep, Bob Broderdorf, has hinted at future utilizations of the Hemi V-8 engine in other Jeeps, potentially including the Gladiator. Interestingly, the Hemi engine was discontinued from the Ram 1500 pickup truck for the 2025 model year, but it is returning for 2026. The Hemi engine is currently available in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 and Jeep's Grand Cherokee SRT midsize SUV.

Despite the focus on electrification, Broderdorf emphasized that offering a single powertrain type in a model is not enough for their consumers. He stated, "Our customers want power, and we are ready to deliver it via more Hemi V-8 engines."

In 2024, Jeep U.S. sales fell 9% from 2023, but they are doing slightly better in 2025. Stellantis reported first-half deliveries for Jeep in 2025 rose 2% year-on-year thanks to positive sales volume for Wrangler, Gladiator, and Compass. The Recon, once launched, will be offered globally by Jeep.

In summary, Jeep is actively expanding the 6.4L HEMI V8 to at least the Gladiator besides the Wrangler, with official confirmation from Jeep leadership and ongoing developments supporting this expansion. Broader availability beyond these models remains a possibility but is not explicitly confirmed yet. Meanwhile, Jeep is also making strides in electrification with the launch of the Recon, their first battery-electric vehicle.
