Japaul Gold launches pilot plant as gold prices hit record highs near $5,000

Japaul Gold & Ventures Plc has begun test runs at its pilot gold processing plant in Libeli, Niger State. This move marks the company's official shift from exploration to active mining after four years of preparation.

The plant will handle both hard-rock and alluvial gold deposits, with full operations set for May 2026.

The company's transition into active mining follows years of regulatory approvals and site development. Once fully operational, the plant aims to process up to 210,000 grams of gold each month.

Gold prices have surged in recent months, breaking above $5,000 per ounce in late January 2026. The metal has risen over 15% since the start of the year, trading near $4,990. This rally builds on a strong 2025, when gold returned over 60% due to a weaker U.S. dollar and geopolitical tensions.

Japaul's financial performance has also improved. The company reported N4.4 billion in revenue for the 2025 financial year, largely driven by offshore activities. Investor confidence has grown, pushing the stock up 50% month-to-date to N3.66 per share. Year-to-date, the share price has climbed 58.44% on strong buying interest.

The company currently holds at least four gold mining licences across Taraba, Niger, and Osun states.

Full production at the Libeli plant is expected by May 2026. The facility's capacity and rising gold prices could further boost Japaul's revenue and market position.

Meanwhile, the company's stock continues to attract investors, reflecting optimism about its mining expansion.
