One candidate holds over Tk 2 crore, another none at all. The party’s financial disclosures paint a striking portrait of inequality before voters decide.

Jamaat-e-Islami candidates reveal stark wealth gaps in election filings

Candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami have submitted their financial details ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. The declarations reveal significant variations in wealth and income among the party’s leaders. Some have reported assets worth crores, while others hold far less.

Matiur Rahman Akanda, contesting in Mymensingh-5, stands out as the wealthiest candidate. His declared assets total Tk 2,13,47,001, with an annual income of Tk 33,63,239. This makes him the highest asset holder among Jamaat’s election hopefuls.

Shishir Monir, though not the richest, leads in reported earnings. His annual income surpasses that of his peers, while his total assets amount to Tk 1 crore 12 lakh 12 thousand 611. Notably, his wife’s declared wealth is even higher.

Other candidates show diverse financial standings. ATM Azharul Islam, holding a master’s in business, declared assets worth around Tk 2.4 crore. Shahjahan Chowdhury, running in Chattogram-15, reported movable assets of Tk 1,95,00,000 and an annual income of Tk 6,48,500. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Jamaat’s nayeb-e-amir, earns Tk 10,38,238 yearly, with total assets of Tk 1,85,00,000.

On the lower end, Mujibur Rahman, contesting in Rajshahi-1, declared an annual income of Tk 6 lakh but no immovable property. Rafiqul Islam Khan, in Sirajganj-4, holds combined assets worth Tk 99,45,329. Mia Golam Parwar, the party’s secretary general, reported assets valued at over Tk 1 crore 14 lakh.

The financial disclosures highlight the range of economic backgrounds among Jamaat-e-Islami’s election candidates. From crores in assets to modest incomes, the declarations provide a clear picture of their financial positions. These figures will remain part of the public record as the election proceeds.
