Jaguar Introduces Petrol Version of Its Electric Car, Includes a Significant Compromise...

Jaguar has recently introduced a new addition to its lineup, the XFL 90th Anniversary Collector's Edition, a petrol car that pays homage to the brand's rich history. This vehicle is a long-wheelbase version of the XF saloon, produced and sold exclusively in China.

The XFL boasts a 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder turbo engine that generates 300hp, and it is available in three distinctive paint colours: British Racing Green, Santorini Black, or Seoul Pearl Silver. Inside, the XFL features Luxury Black Windsor leather for an opulent driving experience.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, allowing the XFL to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in a claimed 6.4 seconds. Despite its powerful performance, the XFL is heavier than the standard XF saloon due to its longer length.

The XFL measures 5.1 meters long, which is almost the same as the current Range Rover and over 300cm longer than a typical UK parking space. This sizeable vehicle is built in small volumes at Chery's Changshu plant in a deal dating back to 2014.

As Jaguar transitions towards an all-electric future, the XFL 90th Anniversary Collector's Edition might be one of the last petrol Jaguars. In fact, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is currently in a 'sunset period' where it will produce no vehicles for a 12-month period.

JLR's first 'new' Jaguar EV will cost over £100,000 and offer in excess of 435 miles on a single charge. It will take the shape of a 'radical' GT car and will be the most powerful Jaguar ever.

While Jaguar is moving towards electric vehicles, it is still celebrating its heritage with non-electric models in certain contexts. For example, the company marked its 90th anniversary by showcasing a non-electric car in China.

The transition to an electric-only luxury car firm was announced last year, and Jaguar has been working diligently to transform into a more contemporary and dynamic brand focused on electric vehicles. The brand has faced criticism for its recent rebranding efforts, but the release of the XFL 90th Anniversary Collector's Edition demonstrates Jaguar's commitment to offering exceptional vehicles to its customers.

P.B. Balaji is set to become the new CEO of Jaguar Land Rover in November 2025, replacing Adrian Mardell, who is retiring after 35 years. Balaji brings extensive international experience and will be instrumental in steering Jaguar through its electric transformation.

The XFL is priced at ¥489,900 in China, which is equivalent to £50,800. The Changshu plant, which currently assembles JLR vehicles for the Chinese market, will soon start producing 'Freelander' cars, rebranded as Chery EVs.

In conclusion, the XFL 90th Anniversary Collector's Edition is a fitting tribute to Jaguar's past as the company moves towards a bright, electric future.
