Investigation to scrutinize Biman Airlines Director Mominul over alleged corruption and unreported assets.
In a recent development, Mominul Islam, a former director of administration and human resources at Bangladesh Biman Airlines, is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegations of corruption, abuse of power, and undeclared assets.
The investigation, announced on 17 September by Md Aktarul Islam, deputy director of the ACC, stems from claims that Mominul amassed illegal wealth through corrupt means. Allegations against him include constructing a luxurious house, maintaining bank balances worth tens of crores, conducting share transactions, and owning seven air-conditioned superior coaches valued at approximately Tk10 crore on the Dhaka-Kushtia route.
While serving as director (administration) at Bangladesh Biman Airlines, Mominul is said to have wiped out two investigation reports against him, one from 2006 and one from 2022. He is also accused of amending the travel allowance policy, causing the institution a loss of nearly Tk1.5 crore.
In addition, Mominul is alleged to have violated administrative orders by illegally disbursing $16,185.60 to airline engineers as TA/DA.
Despite numerous attempts, Mominul could not be reached for a comment on the matter as his mobile phone was found switched off. The investigation has been referred to the Special Investigation Subdivision, but no information about the outcome of the investigation was provided in the paragraph.
Mominul's recent transfer from the position of director (administration and human resources) to director (procurement and logistic support) at Bangladesh Biman Airlines occurred prior to the announcement of the investigation.
As the investigation into Mominul Islam's alleged corruption, abuse of power, and acquisition of undisclosed wealth continues, the public awaits updates on the progress and the eventual outcome of the case.
