Enigma persists over Hertha BSC's financial backer - Intrigue Surrounding Hertha's Financer
The second-tier football club, Hertha BSC, is swirling with a fresh round of shareholder changes. The U.S. company, Advantage Capital Holdings (A-CAP), has finalized transactions with clubs previously owned by 777 Partners. Yet, it's still hazy whether Hertha is among them.
Several clubs, such as Standard Liège, FC Everton, and Melbourne Victory FC, have been mentioned alongside A-CAP. However, it's ambiguous if A-CAP claimed the shares of 777 Partners, including Hertha, Vasco da Gama, or CFC Genoa. Hertha, for now, remains tight-lipped regarding media inquiries on this matter.
One thing's surely clear – for Standard Liège, the era of 777 Partners has drawn to a close. A-CAP has swooped in, purchased the shares, and handed them over to a consortium steered by Standard's CEO, Giacomo Angelini. They proclaimed, "This transaction signals the conclusion of 777 Partners' historical involvement in the club." The club is now liberated from any debt to its previous investor.
777 Partners seized the reins from investor Windhorst in 2023.
In 2023, 777 Partners took control of Lars Windhorst's shares and catapulted themselves to the dominant position within Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA, owning 78.8%. Joshua Wander and Steven W. Pasko, the founders of 777 Partners, then joined the board but vacated their seats at the beginning of April. Their spots were filled by Andy Anson, CEO of the British Olympic Association, and David Ellis. The latter is a portfolio manager at A-CAP.
