The public prosecutor's office in Erfurt is currently investigating allegations of fraud and embezzlement against individual leading members of the Police Union of Thuringia. The investigations are focused on the union's management, and it is suspected that there were irregularities in the handling of the union's assets.

The union's service company, a 100% subsidiary of the trade union, is solely responsible for operating and maintaining the union-owned building and its adjacent property. In a move to prevent any potential damage to the union and its service company, the business manager of the service company has temporarily relinquished his position as deputy state chairman of the GdP Thuringia and resigned from his post.

The investigations are still in an early stage, and the public prosecutor's office is examining whether substantial assets were transferred from the GdP to the service company and whether these transfers were detrimental to the GdP. Assets built up mainly from membership fees are suspected to have been embezzled.

However, it's important to note that the GdP has rejected these allegations, stating that they are devoid of any factual basis and are demonstrably unfounded. The union maintains that all membership fees were used exclusively in the interests of and for the benefit of the members.

In an effort to maintain transparency, the Police Union of Thuringia has committed to communicating all relevant developments regarding the internal review and the public prosecutor's office investigations openly. An "extensive and thorough internal review" of the issue is currently being conducted within the service company owned by the GdP in Thuringia.

The union's premises in Erfurt were searched in connection with these investigations in June. The presumption of innocence applies to all suspects in these investigations.

For the most updated and specific information, it is recommended to consult news outlets or official statements concerning the GdP and Thuringia.

  1. In light of the allegations against the GdP Thuringia, the community policy of transparency has been implemented, with the union promising to provide regular updates about the internal review and the ongoing public prosecutor's office investigations.
  2. With the investigations focusing on the possible transfer of substantial assets from the GdP to its service company, there has been a call for vocational training courses to be announced for union leaders in financial management and general-news journalism, to ensure best practices and prevent future controversies in business and crime-and-justice matters.
