Infrastructure Disruption in Cameroon's Telecom Sector: Third Act of Sabotage Within a Month

In a concerning development, Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) has been hit by a third act of sabotage within a month, this time in Mfou, Mefou, and Afamba Division in the Centre Region. The latest incident occurred on July 14, 2025, and has resulted in a significant disruption of services, affecting all subscribers in the area.

The attack involved vandals destroying three sub-distribution boxes, causing a total blackout of internet services in the entire Mfou zone. This latest incident follows similar acts on June 25 and July 10, 2025, posing a major challenge to restoring stable network operations and protecting vital telecom assets in the region.

CAMTEL has taken swift action, with its technical teams working tirelessly on the ground to restore service as soon as possible. The company has also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the quality, reliability, and security of its infrastructure nationwide. In addition, CAMTEL is deploying necessary resources to strengthen the resilience of its network, recognising the strategic importance of the national telecommunications network for Cameroon's economy, society, and institutions.

CAMTEL has referred the matter to the competent authorities for investigation, identification, arrest, and prosecution of the perpetrators. The company has also emphasised that protecting the national telecommunications network is a collective and patriotic duty.

As of July 17, 2025, CAMTEL wishes to inform its customers, partners, and the general public about the incident and apologises for any inconvenience caused by the service disruption. The company is working diligently to restore services and prevent such incidents in the future.
