Infrastructure debt mandate worth €425 million granted by APG
In a significant move towards sustainable investing, Dutch pension fund manager APG has awarded a €425 million infrastructure mandate to Schroders Capital. This partnership is a natural evolution of APG's clients' strategy, marking a shift in focus towards real asset credit.
APG, which manages €590 billion in assets, is a longstanding investor in infrastructure projects and has now taken its first steps into infrastructure debt. The mandate awarded to Schroders Capital focuses on APG's key investment priorities, including climate change, the energy transition, enhancement of waste management, and the circular economy, as well as workplace safety.
Schroders Capital, a major investor in European Infrastructure debt, is the recipient of this significant mandate. As a cornerstone investor in Schroders Capital's newly launched strategy, 'HENRI', APG is aligning capital with purpose. The 'HENRI' strategy specializes in high-yielding infrastructure and mid-market lending.
Menno van den Elsaker, APG's head of alternative credits, expressed his excitement about this partnership, stating, "We are aligning capital with purpose by taking our first steps into infrastructure debt and growing our commitment to impact credit."
APG's strategy involves driving measurable outcomes through partnerships with like-minded organizations. This investment in infrastructure debt continues to align with this strategy. Schroders Capital, with its extensive experience in mid-market companies and investing across the entire debt capital structure, is an ideal partner for APG in this endeavour.
APG has been managing assets on behalf of pension fund clients, most notably Dutch public sector pension fund ABP. The 'HENRI' strategy further expands APG's commitment to impact credit, demonstrating their dedication to making a positive impact while delivering returns for their clients.
Schroders Capital has deployed some €9 billion in loans since its inception in 2012. The 'HENRI' strategy, a part of APG's investment in infrastructure debt, is a newly launched strategy by Schroders Capital, further solidifying their position in the infrastructure debt market.
APG's investment in infrastructure projects, such as the Noordzeker wind energy park in the North Sea, underscores their commitment to sustainable investing. By engaging with partners who share their ambition to drive measurable outcomes, APG is setting a strong example for other pension funds and investors in the industry.
