Information on Nigdi-Chakan Metro Line: Essential Details about the Planned 35-40 Km Journey

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) is set to expand its reach in Pimpri-Chinchwad with the advanced-stage Nigdi-Chakan Metro Project [1][2][3][4][5]. This proposed metro line, with a length of approximately 41-42 km, will feature 31 stations and connect key areas such as Nigdi, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Bhosari, Nashik Phata, Moshi, and Chakan.

The proposed route, from Bhakti Shakti Chowk (Nigdi) to Chakan, is expected to link about 75% of the city, offering a fast, comfortable, and environmentally friendly public transport option [3]. The estimated cost for this elevated metro line is around ₹10,383.89 crore [2].

The proposed metro line promises to significantly reduce journey times, particularly for those commuting to Chakan MIDC and other busy commercial hubs. The maximum operating speed of the metro will be up to 80 km/h, with daily ridership projected at 3.38 lakh by 2031, rising to 7.81 lakh by 2061 [2].

The Nigdi-Chakan Metro Project will also integrate with existing metro lines such as Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar and Swargate–Pimpri-Chinchwad, enhancing connectivity across the region [2]. Talks between Maha Metro and PCMC for the detailed finalization of the project are ongoing, with the approval anticipated soon [1][4].

Meanwhile, the extension of the metro network from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan, if approved and completed, could potentially ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity along the Pune-Solapur Highway. This extension is intended to address traffic congestion and urbanization issues in the area.

In a significant development, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar advised extending the metro network from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan in the State Assembly [6]. The proposed metro line will stretch approximately 35-40 kilometers, providing a much-needed traveling option for thousands of daily commuters.

The Nigdi-Chakan Metro Project is poised to begin once approvals are granted, with construction likely to start soon after. This expansion will represent a major expansion in the metro network, enhancing intra-city connectivity in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region by the late 2020s.

It's worth noting that the late Laxman Jagtap played a significant role in Pimpri-Chinchwad's growth as an industrial powerhouse. The proposed metro line will undoubtedly transform travel across the city, offering a modern and efficient transportation solution for its growing population.
