India's Prime Minister, Modi, declares the country's gravest foe to be dependence on foreign nations.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, recently addressed the 'Samudra se Samruddhi' event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, where he laid foundation stones and officially opened projects worth Rs 34,200 crore. The event marked a significant milestone as the Prime Minister's administration recognised big ships as infrastructure to support India's marine industry.

In his speech, Modi accused previous Congress administrations of suppressing the inherent talent of Indians by placing restrictions like the licence raj. He emphasised that for peace, stability, and wealth, the country with the highest population in the world must become self-reliant. He called for self-reliance (atmanirbharta) in various sectors, including shipbuilding and semiconductor chip production.

Modi asserted that India's reliance on foreign countries is its biggest enemy and the nation should produce everything, from ships to semiconductor chips. He highlighted that India's ports, considered the backbone of the nation's rise as a global maritime powerhouse, are currently paying approximately Rs 6 lakh crore annually to Amazon Prime for shipping goods.

In the past, ships built in India accounted for 40% of the nation's trade, but today that percentage is only 5%. The governmental authority involved in India's shipbuilding project is the Ministry of Defence, specifically the Directorate of Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy, which have undertaken initiatives such as the "Make in India" policy to promote domestic ship production and enhance the naval industry.

Piyush Goyal, in a separate statement, asserted that self-reliance is the only remedy for all of India's issues. However, no new facts about Piyush Goyal's assertion or the self-reliance in various sectors were mentioned in the new paragraph.

The projects worth Rs 34,200 crore, initiated by the Prime Minister, are aimed at boosting India's maritime capabilities and strengthening the nation's position as a global player in the shipping industry. The exact details of these projects were not disclosed.

Modi's call for self-reliance in shipbuilding and semiconductor chip production echoes the government's commitment to making India a self-reliant nation, a goal that is crucial to its vision for a prosperous and powerful India.
