Indian Embassy and APEDA present high-quality mango variants and agricultural goods at exhibition in Kuwait
In a bid to expand the reach of Indian mangoes in the Kuwaiti market, a delegation of 10 Indian exporters, led by the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), recently visited the country. The visit, which included tours of hypermarkets and retail outlets, aimed to enhance market access for India's diverse mango varieties and processed agro-exports.
The Indian Mango Festival, held at Avenues Mall on 24 July, was a continuation of the celebrations focused on mangoes and other agro-products organised by the Embassy of India in Kuwait. The event was inaugurated by Ambassador H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, who noted that the initiative aimed to diversify offerings beyond familiar names like Alphonso and Badami.
During the festival, Kuwaiti consumers were introduced to premium mango varieties such as Chausa, Mallika, Amrapali, Dussheri, Fazli, and Langra. These varieties, along with Alphonso and Badami, are some of the most popular and premium mangoes appreciated in Kuwait's market.
The Fazli mango, which carries a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, is a distinctive variety known for its unique taste and aroma. The Chausa mango, popular for its deliciously sweet taste and aromatic flavor, is typically elongated with yellowish skin and minimal fiber, making it juicy and favored for fresh consumption.
Sindoori mangoes are recognised for their deep red skin with golden-yellow hues underneath. They have a sweet and tangy flavor with a fiberless pulp. Badami, on the other hand, is medium-sized with a nutty, sweet flavor and a smooth texture. Known as the "King of Mangoes," Alphonso is prized for its rich, sweet taste and smooth, non-fibrous pulp, as well as its distinct aroma and bright golden-yellow skin.
The event also highlighted the top 5 Indian mango varieties exported to Kuwait, which are Alphonso, Badami, Sindoori, Chausa, and Fazli. These varieties combine a mix of sweetness, aroma, texture (fibrous vs. fiberless), and unique appearances, catering well to Kuwaiti consumers’ preferences and culinary uses.
As part of the promotional activities, the highlight of the campaign was "Mango Mania," a flagship event held at Lulu Hypermarket in Al Rai. The Mango Festival did not introduce any new premium mango varieties, as those were already introduced at the "Mango Mania" event.
Kuwait ranks among the top five importers of Indian mangoes, with over $3 million worth of imports in the previous year. The Indian Embassy, in collaboration with APEDA, organised a series of trade and cultural events focused on mangoes and other agro-products from 23-24 July 2025. From 25-27 July, the Indian Embassy will host mango tastings at select branches of the Indian restaurant chain Asha's in Kuwait.
The initiative seeks to reinforce India's image as a reliable source of premium agricultural products and to cater to the growing demand for unique and premium mango varieties in the Kuwaiti market.
In the continuation of the Indian Mango Festival, a variety of premium mangoes such as Fazli, Chausa, Amrapali, Dussheri, and Langra were introduced to the Kuwaiti market, aiming to further diversify offerings beyond familiar names like Alphonso and Badami. As part of the promotional activities, the event "Mango Mania" at Lulu Hypermarket in Al Rai had already introduced some new premium mango varieties, ensuring variety within Indian-exported food-and-drink products, ultimately strengthening business relationships and the finance sector in the broader Kuwaiti market.
