In April 2025, Rosstat, the Russian Federal Statistics Service, released its latest analysis of median wages across various industries in Russia. The study, which analysed the salaries of 28.4 million employees from 95,400 organisations, revealed some interesting insights about the country's wage distribution.

According to the report, the median monthly wage in Russia was 73.9 thousand rubles, marking a significant increase of 1.4 times over the previous two years. However, a closer look at the industry-specific data was not directly provided in the available sources.

The median wage in the financial and insurance sectors was 118.3 thousand rubles, while in the information and communication sector, it stood at 125.6 thousand rubles. In the top-earning sectors, the median wage exceeded these amounts. Unfortunately, the median wage in the processing and trade sectors was not specified in the provided data.

Rosstat's analysis also revealed some of the highest-paying industries. The tobacco industry topped the list with a median wage of 155.4 thousand rubles. The top five industries with the highest median wages also included extraterritorial organisations (135.2 thousand rubles), mining (127.6 thousand rubles), information and communication (125.6 thousand rubles), and the financial sector (118.3 thousand rubles).

The report also highlighted the wage disparities across different sectors. The sectors with the highest median wages (tobacco, extraterritorial organisations, mining, information and communication, and the financial sector) continued to have higher median wages compared to the sectors with the lowest median wages (education, culture and sports, and healthcare). The lowest median wages were observed in education (50.5 thousand rubles), culture and sports (51.9 thousand rubles), and healthcare (56.1 thousand rubles).

Interestingly, the report also showed that 5,300 people earned more than 3 million rubles per month, while almost 34,400 people earned between 1 million and 2 million rubles per month. Over 5,700 people earned between 2 million and 3 million rubles per month, and over 45,000 Russians earned a monthly salary of 1 million rubles or more.

In the trade sector, 6,700 Russians earn a salary of 1 million rubles or more, while the information and communication sectors have the most Russians earning a salary of 1 million rubles or more (9,900).

It's important to note that this analysis was conducted by Rosstat every two years. For more detailed sectoral wage data, one would need to consult Rosstat’s official publications or detailed labor market reports directly.

This report provides a valuable insight into the wage distribution across industries in Russia, offering a comprehensive understanding of the country's labour market landscape. As the economy evolves, it will be interesting to see how these trends develop in the coming years.
