Illegal Workers Found in Bad Dürrheim: Authorities Investigate Multiple Construction Firms

An anonymous tip led authorities to a construction site in Bad Dürrheim, where they found evidence of illegal work and poor living spaces. The Main Customs Office Singen, along with the public prosecutor's office in Constance, is now investigating multiple construction firms suspected of employing undocumented workers and violating workplace safety regulations.

Out of 18 workers at the site, only 11 were properly registered and authorized to work in Germany. Seven men were found to be working illegally, with proceedings initiated against five Belarusian and two Ukrainian workers for suspected illegal residence and working without a necessary residence permit.

The workers' living spaces were subpar, with sleeping quarters among tools and debris, and a makeshift kitchen consisting of a charcoal grill. The workplace safety conditions were also deemed concerning, prompting an investigation into the companies that employed the men. The minimum wage may not have been paid to the workers due to conflicting statements, further complicating the situation.

The investigation into the suspected illegal work and workplace safety violations at the Bad Dürrheim construction site is ongoing. The companies involved have not been publicly named, but authorities have confirmed that multiple construction firms are under scrutiny. The workers' living and working spaces have raised serious concerns, and the minimum wage issue remains a point of contention.
