In the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, there are approximately 2,186 total vacant posts across various departments as of August 2025 [1]. This figure includes positions in the education sector, health and medical education department, power department, horticulture department, and more.

The Health and Medical Education Department has a significant number of vacancies, with 621 posts up for grabs, including roles like staff nurses and junior pharmacists [2][5].

The education sector has the highest estimated number of vacancies, with over 3,400 teacher positions vacant across Jammu and Kashmir (about 1,665 in Jammu and 1,671 in Kashmir), making teaching jobs the largest category of vacancies, although official recruitment notifications are still pending [4].

The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has announced 102 vacancies for posts such as Assistant Professors and Lecturers [3].

Since the formation of the government on October 16, 2022, the JKSSB and JKPSC have been tasked with filling 3,727 of these vacancies [6]. The JKPSC and JKSSB have collected over ₹ 14.17 crore as application fees from job aspirants since October 16, 2022 [7].

It's worth noting that no proposal to make job application forms free for aspirants is currently under consideration.

The tourism sector, a significant employer in Jammu and Kashmir, has immense and extensive employment potential [8]. In 2023, the number of tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir was 2.12 crore, including 55,337 foreigners [9]. The following year, in 2024, this figure rose to 2.36 crore tourists, including 65,452 foreigners [10]. However, no formal survey has been conducted to ascertain the exact number of employment opportunities in the tourism sector.

Uttarakhand, another region with a substantial tourism industry, has also toughened its anti-conversion laws [11]. The seasonal employability potential of the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir varies.

In an unrelated development, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has stated that the fuel of the future is bio-ethanol [12].
