Ice Block Bet in Kamp-Lintfort Shows Power of Insulation for Climate and Finances
A local experiment in Kamp-Lintfort has highlighted the significant impact of insulation on climate protection and personal finances. The 'ice block bet', supported by local sponsors, saw an uninsulated house produce 104 liters of meltwater, compared to just 42 liters from an insulated house.
The event, which involved placing ice blocks on both houses and measuring the resulting meltwater, demonstrated the tangible benefits of good insulation. Axel Witzke, head of the Climate Protection and Climate Change Adaptation department, praised the initiative for engaging the public on energy efficiency.
Barbara Drese, deputy mayor, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of such demonstrations in raising awareness about climate protection. The event was accompanied by a raffle where participants estimated the final meltwater amounts, adding an interactive element to the learning experience. Frank Rattmann, managing director of Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort, noted the year-round advantages of insulation, benefiting both the environment and personal finances. The main donor of the event was Dr. Oetker, with additional support from local sponsors including Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort, Geilings Brewery, Kalisto, and the media library.
The 'ice block bet' in Kamp-Lintfort has served as a powerful reminder of the role that insulation plays in climate protection and personal finance. With the support of local sponsors and officials, the event has engaged the public and demonstrated the clear benefits of proper insulation.
