Hyderabad retiree loses ₹20.7 lakh in fake online trading scam
A 65-year-old Hyderabad resident, Krishna Reddy Vatrapu, has fallen victim to an online trading scam. Reddy, a retired Nizam Sugars officer, lost Rs 20.7 lakh to fraudsters operating a fake trading portal called 9pro.com. He has since filed a complaint with the city's cybercrime police.
Reddy's ordeal began when he was lured by online advertisements and calls promoting 9pro.com, previously known as mudraone.io. Believing the platform to be legitimate, he opened an account on October 9, 2025. Initially, he saw manipulated profits, leading him to invest more. However, the platform was a facade, and Reddy's investments totalled Rs 20,72,319.55, with no returns received.
The fraudsters, claiming to be authorized by the Central government and offering professional trading assistance, later demanded an additional Rs 10 lakh. Pressured, Reddy attempted to borrow more money. It was only after realizing the scam that he filed a complaint on November 11, 2025. The company behind 9pro.com has not yet issued an official statement, and search results do not identify them, describing the platform as a 'fake trading portal'.
Reddy's case is not an isolated incident. Financial cybercrime, especially targeting senior citizens, has been on the rise in India. Authorities are currently investigating the case to identify the individuals involved and trace the money trail. Meanwhile, citizens are advised to exercise caution while dealing with online trading platforms and to verify the authenticity of such services before investing.
